Winter Storm Brings Heavy Snowfall To Rockies And Denver Metro Area

A winter storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall to the Rockies and the Denver metro area, causing travel disruptions in the coming days. The Weather Channel forecasts significant snowfall along the Interstate 25 corridor in Denver, Colorado, and surrounding areas.

Snowfall predictions indicate that higher elevations in Colorado and northern New Mexico will experience the heaviest snowfall amounts, with some areas receiving over a foot of snow. Denver, particularly in the foothills west of the city and in the Palmer Divide south of Denver, may see 6 to 12 inches of snow accumulation.

The National Weather Service has issued winter weather alerts for various regions, including the Cascades, the northern and central Rockies, and the Denver metro area. A winter storm watch is in effect for Denver from Wednesday evening through late Thursday night.

The storm is currently situated in the Northwest and northern Rockies and is expected to impact the central and southern Rockies, as well as the Front Range, from Wednesday through Friday. Major interstates such as 25, 40, 70, and 80 are likely to be affected by the winter storm.

In Denver, rain is predicted to transition to snow later on Wednesday or Wednesday night, leading to potentially hazardous travel conditions in the metro area from Wednesday evening through at least Thursday night. March is historically one of the snowiest months for regions in the Rockies and surrounding areas, with Denver experiencing high snowfall levels.

Alaska-based climatologist Brian Brettschneider provided an analysis on the winter weather patterns in the region, highlighting the significance of March as a snowy month for locations in eastern Colorado, northern New Mexico, Wyoming, and neighboring states. Denver, in particular, has seen its snowiest month on record in March, with two of the top four snowiest months occurring in this century.

As the storm progresses, residents and travelers are advised to stay updated on the weather conditions and take necessary precautions. The Weather Company, along with the National Weather Service and other meteorological entities, will continue to monitor and provide updates on the winter storm impacting the region.
