Winter Storm Cora Dallas Fort Worth Snow

DALLAS – North Texas, including Dallas and Fort Worth, is bracing for a messy mix of snow, sleet, and ice as Winter Storm Cora sweeps through the region on Thursday. The storm is expected to create hazardous travel conditions, with varying impacts depending on location within the Metroplex.

FOX 4 Traffic Reporter Chip Waggoner reported that roads were clear as of 6 a.m., but a rain-sleet mix has already begun moving through Parker, Jacksboro, and Wise counties. “Drivers should be cautious, especially in areas where precipitation is starting,” Waggoner advised. He noted that fewer people are on the roads due to the storm, which could help mitigate some traffic issues.

FOX 4 Meteorologist Evan Andrews said temperatures are currently at or above freezing, meaning roads will likely remain wet for most of the day with isolated slick spots. However, conditions are expected to worsen after sunset. “Once temperatures drop, snow will start accumulating, and roads could become very slippery,” Andrews warned.

The Texas Department of Transportation has urged residents to avoid unnecessary travel and to check road conditions before heading out. Traffic cameras across the region are monitoring the situation, with updates available through local news outlets and transportation websites.

Winter Storm Cora is part of a larger weather system affecting much of the central United States. The National Weather Service has issued winter weather advisories for North Texas, emphasizing the potential for dangerous driving conditions and power outages due to ice accumulation.

Residents are advised to prepare for the storm by stocking up on essentials, charging electronic devices, and ensuring their vehicles are equipped with emergency supplies. Local schools and businesses are also monitoring the situation, with some already announcing closures or delays for Thursday.
