Dallas Airport Winter Storm Flight Cancellations

DALLAS, Texas – A winter storm sweeping through North Texas has caused widespread flight cancellations at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Dallas Love Field, disrupting travel plans for thousands ahead of the Cotton Bowl on Friday. As of 4 a.m. Thursday, more than 500 departing flights and 450 arriving flights at DFW were canceled, with similar disruptions at Love Field.

American Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and Envoy Air accounted for most of the cancellations. American Airlines issued a travel alert, allowing passengers to rebook without fees. “Passenger safety is the utmost priority for us,” said Patrick Clarke, a spokesperson for Dallas Love Field. “We want to get passengers to their destinations but do so in a safe manner.”

Both airports are prepared for the storm, with DFW and Love Field deploying snowplows, de-icing agents, and additional staff. Love Field has over 40,000 gallons of liquid de-icer and 166,000 pounds of sand and salt on hand. Airlines are responsible for de-icing planes, which may cause additional delays.

The storm is expected to bring a mix of sleet, rain, and snow, with heavier snowfall predicted north and northeast of Dallas. FOX 4 meteorologists forecast 1 to 3 inches of snow in the DFW area and 3 to 6 inches in northern regions. The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has mobilized crews to assist with road conditions and game-day traffic for the Cotton Bowl.

Organizers for the Cotton Bowl confirmed the game will proceed as scheduled, despite the weather. Fans are advised to check flight statuses and road conditions before traveling. American Airlines recommends using their website or app for real-time updates.
