Middle Tennessee Winter Storm School Closures

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Multiple school districts across Middle Tennessee have announced closures ahead of a significant winter storm expected to impact the area. The closures come as a winter storm warning is in effect from Tuesday through Friday, with accumulating snow anticipated to begin tonight and lasting into early Wednesday.

The snow, combined with dangerously cold Arctic air, poses a hazard for students and staff. TCAT-McMinnville has also announced that they will switch to virtual learning on Wednesday in light of the incoming weather.

Weather forecasts indicate that these winter weather conditions are a result of an area of low pressure developing to the south, bringing moisture from the Gulf of Mexico. This moisture, coupled with temperatures dropping below freezing, is expected to lead to substantial snow accumulation across the region.

The Storm 5 Alert has been issued for all of Middle Tennessee from now until Wednesday afternoon. As the storm progresses, more school districts are likely to announce closures and updates will be made available.

Local residents have been encouraged to prepare for challenging travel conditions and to stay informed about the latest weather updates. The WSMV 4 First Alert Weather app offers real-time updates on weather conditions, providing users with the most current forecasts and alerts.

Officials stress the importance of safety and caution during this winter weather, advising residents to limit travel if possible and to monitor emergency services for any updates as the storm unfolds.
