Winter Storm Prompts School Delays Across Central NY

Syracuse, NY – Many schools across Central New York have announced delays for Thursday, February 6, 2025, due to a winter storm.

According to school officials, school websites, and news reports, several districts have opted to delay the start of classes due to hazardous weather conditions. Among the affected districts are BOCES, Oneida-Herkimer-Madison; Canastota Central Schools; Chittenango Central Schools; Holland Patent Central Schools; Jordan-Elbridge Central Schools; Mount Markham Central School; New Hartford Schools; Oriskany Central Schools; Phoenix Central Schools; Westmoreland Central Schools; and Whitesboro Schools. Most delays are for a duration of 2 hours. Some schools are also canceling morning preschool classes.

Forecasters predict winter weather conditions across the region throughout Wednesday night into Thursday morning. Snowfall began Wednesday evening and is expected to intensify, eventually transitioning to an icy mix of sleet and freezing rain.

Officials urge parents and students to exercise caution on roadways and monitor weather updates as conditions continue.
