Louisville Winter Storm Snow Accumulation 2025

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A winter storm warning is in effect through Saturday morning as the Louisville area prepares for 2 to 5 inches of snow. The storm, which began Friday morning, is expected to bring moderate to heavy snowfall across southern Indiana and central Kentucky, with snow gradually tapering off by early Saturday.

According to Chief Meteorologist Jay Cardosi of WLKY, the region has already seen 1 to 1.5 inches of snow in the metro area, with heavier accumulations reported in Grayson County. Roads are becoming increasingly slick as temperatures hover in the upper 20s, and visibility is reduced due to falling snow.

“The snow will continue to come down at a pretty good clip through the evening hours,” Cardosi said. “By 9 or 10 p.m., the snow will diminish to flurries, but untreated roads will remain hazardous overnight.”

This storm differs from the previous winter event, as all precipitation is expected to fall as snow. Snow began pushing into southwestern Kentucky late Friday morning and spread across the region throughout the day. By Saturday, quieter weather is expected, though temperatures will remain chilly, with highs in the upper 20s to low 30s.

Residents are urged to exercise caution while driving, as roads are expected to become more treacherous after dark. The WLKY Drive Cam captured snow-covered lanes on Preston Highway, highlighting the deteriorating conditions.

Looking ahead, Sunday will bring slightly warmer temperatures, with highs in the mid-30s and some sunshine. However, another cold wave is expected next week, with single-digit lows and light snow chances. A gradual thaw is anticipated by next Friday, with temperatures nearing 40 degrees.
