ANCHORAGE, Alaska – Residents in several states across the U.S. are bracing for a major winter storm forecasted to deliver up to 20 inches of snow by Monday night, with some areas experiencing snowfall until Wednesday.

The National Weather Service (NWS) has issued warnings highlighting that heavy snow could severely impact travel conditions, particularly during morning and evening commutes. High winds may lead to blizzard conditions that could reduce visibility and create hazardous driving situations.

In Alaska, the Klondike Highway is predicted to receive around 5 inches of snow, with heaviest accumulation expected during Monday afternoon at a rate of over half an inch per hour. The Kenai Peninsula could see totals up to 10 inches, while Portage and Whittier are poised for the most significant snowfall, with forecasts suggesting totals could reach up to 20 inches by Monday evening.

Travelers in Colorado should also prepare for winter weather, where areas like the Elkhead and Park Range Mountains are expecting 4 to 8 inches of snow by late Monday afternoon. The Wind River and Teton Mountains could receive up to 10 inches, creating challenges for those commuting in the affected regions.

The NWS in Nevada has cautioned outdoor recreationists about the potential for dangerous conditions. In the Lake Tahoe area, smaller boats and paddleboards should stay off the water due to high winds that could lead to dangerous conditions on the lake. Advisories for strong winds and hazardous travel conditions are in effect across northern and central California, along with parts of western Nevada.

Forecasters warn that after this initial storm system moves through, a second system may arrive midweek, bringing additional snow and challenging weather conditions. Residents and travelers are urged to monitor local weather reports and exercise caution when traveling in winter weather.
