ROCHESTER, N.Y. — A winter weather advisory remains in effect until 4 a.m. EST Thursday for several counties in New York‘s Finger Lakes region. The National Weather Service has warned of mixed precipitation, with total snow and sleet accumulations expected to reach 1 to 2 inches, alongside ice accumulations of a few hundredths of an inch.
The advisory affects Monroe, Livingston, and Ontario Counties, presenting potential hazards for residents. Strong winds gusting between 40 to 50 mph are also anticipated, particularly across higher terrain south of the New York State Thruway.
According to the National Weather Service, dangerous travel conditions are likely. “Plan on slippery road conditions which will impact the Wednesday evening commute,” the agency stated. They urged drivers to slow down and exercise caution while on the road.
Local authorities have highlighted the risk of downed tree branches and isolated power outages due to the gusty winds. Residents are encouraged to report snow and ice conditions through the National Weather Service’s website or social media channels.
As cold weather persists, the advisory serves as a reminder for individuals to prepare accordingly. Safety precautions should be taken to alleviate risks associated with winter driving conditions, including allowing for extra travel time and using winter tires where necessary.
