Woman Sues Conor McGregor Over Alleged Sexual Assault at NBA Finals
MIAMI, Fla. — A Miami-Dade County woman has filed a federal lawsuit against former UFC star Conor McGregor, alleging he sexually assaulted her in a bathroom at the Kaseya Center following Game 4 of the 2023 NBA Finals. The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida, also names the Miami Heat and the arena’s staff, accusing them of gross negligence.
The plaintiff, identified as a 49-year-old Wall Street executive, claims the incident occurred on June 9, 2023, after the Miami Heat played the Denver Nuggets. According to the lawsuit, McGregor allegedly led the woman into a men’s restroom stall, where he assaulted her while arena security prevented her acquaintance from intervening.
“After a thorough investigation at the time, the State’s Attorney concluded that there was no case to pursue,” McGregor’s attorney, Barbara Llanes, said in a statement. “Almost two years and at least three lawyers later, the plaintiff has a new false story. We are confident that this case too will be dismissed.”
The lawsuit alleges that McGregor, who was visibly intoxicated, forcibly engaged in non-consensual sexual acts with the woman. It also claims that arena staff failed to act despite prior knowledge of McGregor’s aggressive behavior earlier that evening, including an incident where he punched the Heat mascot, Burnie, during an on-court skit.
Jim Dunn, the plaintiff’s attorney, told ESPN that his client filed the civil suit to “raise awareness and encourage others to report sexual assault.” He added that the woman fears the lawsuit could impact her career but remains committed to pursuing justice.
The lawsuit seeks compensatory damages, medical treatment costs, and other relief. It also highlights McGregor’s history of legal troubles, including a recent Irish court order requiring him to pay $257,000 to another woman who accused him of rape in 2018. McGregor has denied all allegations.
Heat officials and Kaseya Center representatives have not yet commented on the lawsuit.
