Worker Fatally Injured In Vehicle Related Incident At Saraji Coal Mine In Queensland's Bowen Basin

A tragic incident at the Saraji coal mine in Queensland‘s Bowen Basin has claimed the life of a worker. The worker was involved in a vehicle-related incident at the mine, according to BHP Mitsubishi Alliance (BMA) asset president, Adam Lancey.

Emergency services responded to the scene after the worker suffered fatal injuries, stated Mr. Lancey. The Saraji mine, located in Dysart, suspended its operations following the incident.

The Queensland Ambulance Service confirmed that paramedics were called to the mine at approximately 1:30 pm yesterday. They attended to a man in his 20s who was found in a critical condition. The injured worker was then transported by road to Dysart Hospital.

Resources Safety and Health Queensland, along with the Mines Inspectorate and other relevant authorities, have been notified and will join forces with BMA for a comprehensive investigation into the incident.

In a statement, Mining and Energy Union Queensland president, Mitch Hughes, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of life. He confirmed that safety inspectors from the union were present at the mine to conduct a thorough investigation. Mr. Hughes emphasized the urgency of determining the cause of the incident to prevent further fatalities or injuries.

This is not the first tragedy to occur at the Saraji mine. On New Year’s Eve 2018, dozer operator Allan Houston lost his life when his machine rolled on site.
