World Environment Day 2024 Celebrated in Mizoram with Call for Environmental Conservation
On June 5th, World Environment Day 2024 was observed with great enthusiasm in Mizoram. The Mizoram Pollution Control Board organized a special event at Chanmari YMA Hall to mark the occasion. The event was presided over by Pi Rebec Lalhruaimawii and chaired by Pu Liankima Lailung (IFS Rtd.).
During the event, key discussions revolved around the urgent need to address pollution issues, especially concerning water and air quality in the state. The board emphasized the importance of taking proactive measures to tackle water and air pollution effectively. It was highlighted that sustainable environmental practices are crucial for the well-being of present and future generations.
Representatives from the Mizoram Environmental NGOs Coordination Committee, led by Pu Vanlalhrima, delivered a comprehensive presentation outlining various environmental concerns and possible solutions. They stressed the role of communities in mitigating environmental degradation and underlined the significance of citizen participation in fostering a cleaner and greener environment.
Pu Benjamin Lalnunsanga Colney, representing Mizoram EIACP Hub, shared reports highlighting the board’s initiatives and activities conducted throughout the year as part of the World Environment Day celebrations. These included mass rallies in different districts, an e-waste management drive in Aizawl, and incentivizing proper waste disposal with monetary rewards and certificates.
