3-Year-Old Boy Critical After Near Drowning in Chandler Pool

CHANDLER, Ariz. — A three-year-old boy is in critical condition after being pulled from a pool on Monday evening. The Chandler Police Department responded to a drowning report near the intersection of Chandler Heights and Gilbert roads just before 7 p.m.
When officers arrived at the home on the 5000 block of Ashley Drive, they found the unconscious child who had already been removed from the backyard pool. Police began performing CPR until the firefighters arrived and took over care.
Authorities say that the child was quickly transported to Chandler Regional Hospital and later flown to Phoenix Children’s Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. No further information, including how the incident occurred, has been released.
This incident highlights the risks of drowning, which is the leading cause of death for children ages 1 to 4, outside of birth defects. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, approximately three children die every day from drowning.
Officials recommend safety measures such as learning CPR, installing isolation fences around pools, ensuring children wear life jackets in open water, and closely supervising children near any water source.
This is a developing story, and more information will be provided as it becomes available.
