PLEASANT GROVE, Utah — A 9-year-old boy has died after being struck by a truck while crossing a street in Pleasant Grove on Tuesday, April 29, 2025. The Pleasant Grove Police Department reported that the incident occurred around 4 p.m. at the intersection of 2600 North and 900 West.

The boy, identified as Dalton Gibbs, was reportedly returning home from school when he was hit by a white pickup truck. Witnesses have stated that the vehicle was driven by an elderly man who initially left the scene. First responders provided immediate first aid to Dalton before he was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

Sgt. Derick Shumway of the Pleasant Grove Police Department expressed the community’s sorrow over the event. He described it as a tragic situation, saying, “Our hearts go out to the families and the witnesses and everybody that was involved.”

Authorities confirmed that they have identified the driver and located the vehicle, a white, four-door Chevy truck with a handicap placard. Investigators are currently working to determine the circumstances that led to the collision. As of the latest updates, the driver has not been taken into custody but is cooperating with the investigation.

A GoFundMe account has been established to assist Dalton’s family with funeral expenses and other related costs. A statement on the fundraiser described Dalton as “a light in the lives of everyone who knew him,” emphasizing his joyful spirit and kindness.

The intersection where the accident occurred will remain closed as police conduct their investigation.
