Young Comedian Discusses Cultural Topics on Popular Show
A recent episode of a popular television show spotlighted comedian Wakim, a newcomer who used his appearance to address young people’s support for Gazan and Palestinian causes. The segment included discussions on diverse opinions held by Gen Z, particularly their inclination towards pro-Palestinian views and skepticism about U.S. actions.
During his appearance, Wakim, who is of Lebanese descent, shared his comedic insights with the audience. He commented, “I don’t think people are being honest with stuff over there,” addressing the complexities of current international issues while highlighting differences in generational attitudes.
The comedian also reflected humorously on his personal experiences growing up as a Christian Arab in Lebanon and the cultural dynamics within his family. He mentioned how his conservative Republican father navigated his cultural identity, jokingly stating, “That’s the real American dream, dude, to go from a village in Lebanon to being like, ‘No, no don’t let more in. No, sorry about that, no, sorry, white guys only.'”
Wakim’s routine also touched on the perception of Arab Christians, adding, “No matter how liberal or conservative of an area I’m in, when people find out I was raised Christian, people just relax a little bit.” His jokes married comedic prowess with social commentary, using humor to bridge cultural understanding.
In another part of the show, Sarah Sherman joined the broadcast to humorously critique the return of the Victoria's Secret runway show. While praising the inclusion of diverse body types, she humorously suggested that all models seemed like “perfect 10s,” yearning for more relatability and realism in representations.
Sherman expressed a desire for more “real” underwear representations, quipping, “I want to see tired, cranky, busted bitches in real underwear. The kind you buy in packs of 12 at CVS.” Her humorous take on mainstream beauty standards added a lively moment to the episode.
