Artist Zayn Malik has postponed the United States leg of his “Stairway to the Sky Tour” following the untimely death of his former bandmate, Liam Payne. In an Instagram post on Saturday, Malik cited “the heartbreaking loss experienced this week” as the reason for the postponement.

“I’ve made the decision to postpone the US leg of the Stairway to the Sky Tour,” Malik wrote. “The dates are being rescheduled for January and I’ll post them as soon as it’s all set in the next few days. Your tickets will remain valid for the new dates.” He concluded his message with gratitude, saying, “Love you all and thank you for your understanding.”

Malik, aged 31, initially announced his first-ever solo tour in September, scheduling performances in five US cities and six in the UK from October to December. The tour was set to begin on October 23 in San Francisco. This solo venture follows the release of his fourth studio album, “Room Under the Stairs,” in May.

The decision to postpone was made in light of the recent death of Liam Payne, Malik’s former bandmate from the widely popular group One Direction. Payne tragically died at the age of 31 after falling from the balcony of his hotel room in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Law enforcement reported that Payne suffered a cranial fracture and multiple injuries that were deemed too severe for treatment. Buenos Aires emergency response teams quickly realized that resuscitation efforts would be futile.

Malik paid tribute to Payne in an emotional Instagram post, reflecting on their shared history. “I never got to thank you for supporting me through some of the most difficult times in my life,” he wrote. Malik described Payne as “headstrong, opinionated, and not afraid to tell people when they were wrong.” He further expressed his grief by stating, “There are no words that justify or explain how I feel right now other than beyond devastated. I hope that wherever you are right now you are good and are at peace.”

Payne, along with Malik, was a part of the band One Direction, which rose to fame after forming on “The X Factor” in 2010. The band released five studio albums before Malik’s departure in 2015, after which the group went on indefinite hiatus the following year.

An investigation into the circumstances surrounding Payne’s fall is currently underway, with initial reports suggesting that substances may have been a contributing factor.
