Zendaya Joins Cast of Shrek 5 as Shrek’s Daughter

LOS ANGELES, Calif. — Award-winning actress Zendaya has officially joined the cast of Shrek 5, set to release on December 23, 2026. The announcement was made via the franchise’s official social media channels on February 27, 2025. Zendaya will voice the character Felicia, the daughter of Shrek (Mike Myers) and Fiona (Cameron Diaz), adding a new dynamic to the beloved animated series.

The film, which marks the fifth installment in the Shrek series, will also see the return of Eddie Murphy as the voice of Donkey. This will be the first major theatrical release for the franchise since Shrek Forever After in 2010.

Directing Shrek 5 are Walt Dohrn, who previously worked on the second, third, and fourth films, and Brad Ableson from the Minions franchise. Dohrn, who has voiced characters in earlier films, and returning producer Gina Shay, alongside Illumination’s Chris Meledandri, aim to rejuvenate the franchise for new and returning audiences.

The Shrek franchise began with its groundbreaking 2001 film, which grossed over $488 million worldwide and won the inaugural Academy Award for Best Animated Feature. The original film featured Shrek’s quest to rescue Princess Fiona and was praised for its humorous take on fairy tale conventions. Following its success, the series has grossed more than $2.9 billion globally, leading to multiple sequels, a Broadway musical, and various spin-offs, including the Puss in Boots films.
