Ontario Mpp Goldie Ghamari Expelled From Pc Caucus After Meeting With Controversial Figure

Ontario Member of Provincial Parliament (MPP), Goldie Ghamari, has faced expulsion from the Ontario Progressive Conservative (PC) caucus after engaging in a meeting with a contentious far-right figure. The decision to remove Ghamari from the PC caucus was announced by Premier Doug Ford‘s office as a response to what they have described as “serious lapses in judgment and failure to collaborate constructively with caucus leaders.”

The expulsion came after Ghamari posted a photo of her encounter with Tommy Robinson, who is better known as Stephen Christopher Yaxley-Lennon, on the social media platform X. Robinson, a controversial figure, is associated with the English Defence League and has a history of convictions in the United Kingdom. Ghamari claimed she was unaware of Robinson’s past when meeting with him, citing her Iranian-Canadian heritage and her concerns regarding human rights violations by the Islamic regime in Iran as the reason for their conversation.

The National Council of Canadian Muslims (NCCM) expressed outrage over Ghamari’s meeting with Robinson, labeling him an Islamophobe and a criminal. Robinson’s visit to Canada, sponsored by Rebel NewsEzra Levant, was interrupted by legal issues upon his arrival in Calgary, related to his immigration status.

Ghamari’s dismissal from the PC caucus has sparked reactions from various quarters. While Robinson criticized the decision implying implications on freedom of speech, NCCM welcomed the move, emphasizing Ghamari’s history of spreading hateful narratives and condoning Islamophobia.

Following her removal from the caucus, Ghamari cryptically responded on X, hinting at new opportunities. Despite declining to comment further on the issue, her expulsion has stirred debate on the intersection of political freedom and associations with controversial figures.
