Movie Business Gains Momentum as Big Deals Near Completion

LOS ANGELES, CA — The movie business is seeing a much-needed hot streak as two major film packages edge closer to deals. One project, a feature adaptation of a popular video game, has the acclaimed director of Wicked attached, and will spotlight female leads.
Writers Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese, known for their work on Deadpool and Zombieland, are behind this new adaptation. Bids from major studios like Sony and Amazon MGM Studios have reportedly reached multiple millions, with Amazon MGM poised to secure the project soon.
In addition to this, another intriguing project titled Deeper may see actress Ana de Armas take on a lead role. Sources indicate she and the director have begun diving training for the undersea supernatural film. Deeper follows an astronaut who confronts a terrifying force during an exploration of a never-before-seen trench.
The film has been in development since April 2016, originally under MGM with a script from Max Landis. Other notable names, including Bradley Cooper and filmmaker Baltasar Kormákur, had previously been attached, but the project stalled. The current budget is estimated at $200 million, a figure too steep for Warner Bros.
Despite the high stakes, Tom Cruise has been making headlines with his recent film, expected to perform well during its five-day opening. De Armas is also gaining traction with her upcoming John Wick spinoff. Whispers in the industry suggest Cruise favors making Deeper next, and it may just be a matter of location for the shoot.
No official comments have been released from Cruise’s camp. Stay tuned for updates on these projects as developments unfold.
