Chris Evans Shares Sweet Proposal Story to Alba Baptista

New York City, USA – Chris Evans revealed details about his engagement to Alba Baptista during the premiere of his new film, Materialists, on June 7, 2025. The 43-year-old actor shared how he proposed in Portuguese to honor his bride’s heritage.

Speaking with The Knot, Evans described the nervous lead-up to the proposal. “I learned how to say ‘Will you marry me?’ in Portuguese,” he said. “And I was so nervous. I had practiced all week! While making breakfast, I almost started saying it out loud. I thought, ‘Oh god! That’s not just a song stuck in my head; it’s going to let the cat out of the bag.'”

Evans continued about his experience, expressing his anxiety about the moment. “I got really nervous when it came time to do it, and I actually think I screwed it up, but I still know it!” he said, smiling.

The couple’s love story has been mostly private, with news of their engagement surfacing only before their wedding in September 2023. They exchanged vows at their home near Boston and celebrated with a second ceremony in Portugal, Baptista’s home country.

Currently, Evans is promoting Materialists, which also stars Dakota Johnson and Pedro Pascal. The film is set to release in the U.S. on June 13, 2025.
