Mirra Andreeva Reaches First Grass-Court Quarterfinal at Bad Homburg Open

Bad Homburg, Germany — Mirra Andreeva secured her first grass-court victory at the 2025 Bad Homburg Open by defeating Clara Tauson 3-6, 6-3, 6-1 on Wednesday. The match lasted 1 hour and 49 minutes and clinched Andreeva’s spot in her first career grass-court quarterfinal.
The 18-year-old Russian, seeded third, had not won a match on grass since her success at the 2023 Wimbledon, where she reached the third round. After struggling with a 0-2 record on grass in 2024, her win against Tauson marked a much-needed turnaround. Andreeva acknowledged the challenge of the match, saying, “I just tried to stay calm, and fight for every point.”
Andreeva, ranked seventh in the world, maintained her perfect record against the 23rd-ranked Tauson, having previously defeated her at the WTA 1000 Dubai final earlier this year. She will face rising star Linda Noskova, who also won her match on Wednesday against last year’s runner-up, Donna Vekic.
In another exciting match, Beatriz Haddad Maia upset seventh seed Elina Svitolina with a score of 3-6, 6-4, 7-6(7). Haddad Maia converted her fifth match point after a nail-biting tiebreak that showcased her determination and resilience. With this victory, she advances to face second-seed Jasmine Paolini in the quarterfinals.
Ekaterina Alexandrova also reached the quarterfinals by defeating Maria Sakkari 6-3, 6-7(2), 6-3. Alexandrova, the eighth seed, will meet fourth seed Iga Swiatek next. They have never faced each other on grass before, although Swiatek holds a narrow 3-2 lead in their head-to-head record.
The quarterfinals at the Bad Homburg Open feature a competitive lineup, with top-seeded Jessica Pegula, Andreeva, Haddad Maia, Alexandrova, Paolini, and Swiatek all vying for a shot at the title.
