Slotkin Calls for Democrats to Revive ‘Alpha Energy’ Amid Party Challenges

Washington, D.C. — Senator Elissa Slotkin of Michigan warned fellow Democrats about losing their assertive spirit during remarks at the Center for American Progress event on Thursday. She stressed the need for the party to unite and take bold action to regain power.
Slotkin criticized her party for its lack of cohesiveness, saying, “We’re like a solar system with no sun,” referring to the division within the party. She emphasized the importance of having a coordinated plan and executing it as a team. “When we don’t work as a team, we turn our guns on each other, and it’s so, so, so fruitless,” Slotkin added.
As a first-term senator and former CIA analyst, Slotkin is recognized as a rising star in the Democratic Party. In her speech, she unveiled an “economic war plan” aimed at tackling issues like rising costs and declining trust in government.
The plan highlights five key areas: creating well-paying jobs, modernizing education, making housing affordable, pursuing a comprehensive energy strategy, and reforming health care. “The single greatest security threat to the United States is not coming from abroad. It’s the shrinking middle class here at home,” she said.
Slotkin also addressed the broken immigration system, asserting that both parties have failed to find effective solutions. She called for significant reforms and encouraged her colleagues to move beyond talking points. “We need big, bold change to fix a broken system,” she remarked.
On education, she advocated for banning mobile phones in K-12 classrooms and investing in alternatives to traditional college pathways, emphasizing that vocational paths can lead to success.
Slotkin’s remarks came days after the progressive candidate Zohran Mamdani defeated moderate Andrew Cuomo in the New York City mayoral primary. Commenting on the election, she noted that voters are focused on economic issues and seeking new leadership. “Their interest was in believing that someone was going to do something different,” she said.
In concluding her address, Slotkin urged Democrats to take pragmatic steps to restore the middle class and regain public trust by confronting powerful special interests. “It’s time to put our money where our mouth is,” she declared.
