Intense Competition Marks Day at Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf Cup

Pozo Izquierdo, Spain – The 37th Gran Canaria Gloria Windsurf Cup saw thrilling action as the competition intensified on July 11, 2025. Juniors under 18 and 15 and Masters categories competed fiercely, finishing their full elimination rounds amid challenging winds and waves.
The day started at 11 a.m. with the U18 girls, where Belgium’s Sol Degrieck dominated the heats. At just 15 years old, Degrieck, who previously ranked fifth in the 2024 PWA World Tour, claimed the title after winning all three heats. She expressed her joy at being back on the podium, especially after her strong performance at last year’s event.
In the U15 male category, Spanish sailor Yannik Kolb triumphed in the finals, overcoming fellow compatriot Koa Fabio, who secured second place. Elías Antolín took third. Kolb attributed his victory to a solid wave ride despite unfavorable conditions.
The U18 male category featured intense competition with quarterfinal and semifinal rounds. After fierce heats, Peter Gobish emerged as the winner, showcasing impressive skills with his strong wave rides. Danish Bjorn Olesen finished second, while Javier Escribano from Tarifa claimed third place against Italy’s Antonio Silvestri.
The Masters category also concluded its quarterfinals, revealing the top eight competitors who will face off in the upcoming semifinals and finals. Among them is Spain’s Michael Friedl.
Alongside the heats, the event offered various educational and leisure activities such as a first aid workshop for young participants. The championship enjoys robust support from the Gran Canaria Island Council and local sponsors, reinforcing its commitment to active tourism and sports.
