Crockett Criticized for Disengaged Leadership and Treatment of Staff

WASHINGTON — Rep. Jasmine Crockett, a Democrat from Texas, is facing backlash from former colleagues over her leadership style and treatment of staff. Since taking office in January 2023, she has gained attention for her outspoken criticism of President Trump, but sources claim her behavior off-camera is troubling.
Three aides who previously worked with Crockett reported that she rarely spends time in her office at the Longworth House Office Building. Instead, she often works from her luxury apartment nearby, with one aide stating, “She is laying around her apartment, won’t come into the office, and is really just indifferent to staff.”
Crockett’s absence from the office is coupled with reported episodes of harsh treatment towards staff members. “She is very disengaged,” said a former aide. “She does her bulls— that goes viral, and then freaks out over the most random things.”
Another source added that it is well-known within her team that she is not supportive of her staff, claiming, “She is focused almost exclusively on being an influencer, not a member of Congress.” When she does appear on Capitol Hill, she prefers to be driven in rented luxury cars, giving off a sense of entitlement, according to aides.
This behavior extends to her interactions with staff, with some describing a toxic work environment. One former aide recounted a particularly distressing incident where Crockett yelled, “Do you really want to be here? And if not, you can leave!” This encounter reportedly left the aide in tears.
Insiders also say that Crockett has exhibited discriminatory behavior, particularly during debates regarding LGBTQ+ issues. A former staffer shared that she was dismissive concerning concerns raised by her gay team members, maintaining her derogatory remarks were not offensive.
Despite her rising profile in national politics, including appearances at key events like the Democratic National Convention, the narratives surrounding her leadership are mixed. “The staff is really just an island unto itself,” stated one former aide, emphasizing a disconnect between Crockett and the issues impacting her constituents.
As Crockett continues to engage in partisan battles, her approach raises questions about her ability to effectively serve as a Congressman while maintaining healthy relationships within her team. “She thinks she’s her own best adviser, she knows best, and has this toxic staff environment,” shared one source.
