Angel Reese Wnba Free Agency

CHICAGO, IL — WNBA star Angel Reese is calling for significant changes within the Chicago Sky as the team faces a tough offseason. With a disappointing record of 9-30 heading into a critical game against the Connecticut Sun, Reese, the team’s leading scorer, expressed her frustration and made it clear that she wants improvement.

Reese, who is not a free agent after this season but the second year of her rookie contract, stated, “I’m not settling for the same s−−− we did this year. We have to get good players. We have to get great players. That’s a non-negotiable for me.” She added that it is essential for the Sky to attract top talent in free agency.

Throughout her career with the Sky, Reese has been openly supportive of the team while also voicing her opinions on necessary changes. Last offseason, she actively engaged in community improvement projects, yet she is ready to demand more from the front office this year.

“I am very vocal about what we need and what I want,” Reese said. “I’d like to be here for my career, but if things don’t pan out, obviously I might have to move in a different direction and do what’s best for me.”

Reese’s comments come after the Sky’s front office has made moves that have not yet led to on-court success. General Manager Jeff Pagliocca has focused on building a competitive roster, but injuries and lackluster performances have hindered progress. The team also lost longtime point guard Courtney Vandersloot to a season-ending injury, further complicating their situation.

Reese pointed out the importance of improving the team’s identity, stating the need for a stronger playing style and dynamic roster. “We can’t rely on Courtney to come back at the age that she’s at,” she commented. “We need someone probably a little younger with some experience.”

As the team prepares for an uncertain offseason, Reese believes that significant changes are vital for attracting free agents. “We need great players, and I don’t know what will attract that,” she admitted. Reese emphasized that the Sky need to convince potential stars that they are headed in the right direction.

She concluded, “It would be a leap of faith for a great player to come here and show that this is something that they want to be a part of and we can bring that championship mentality.”
