Mississippi Lottery Warns of Online Scam Targeting Players

JACKSON, Miss. – The Mississippi Lottery Corporation is warning players about a new scam circulating on social media. Recent posts are encouraging individuals to download an app that falsely claims to sell Mississippi Lottery tickets.
Officials from the Mississippi Lottery have confirmed that no such app exists and that lottery products cannot be purchased online. Tickets and scratch-off games are only available through authorized retailers across the state.
Players are advised against interacting with suspicious links or downloading apps that claim to sell lottery tickets. They are also reminded not to share personal or financial information with third-party sources.
If players have any doubts regarding the legitimacy of information related to the Mississippi Lottery, they can call the Customer Service Team at 601-487-1355 for verification. “We want our players to stay safe and play responsibly,” said a lottery spokesperson.
This warning comes as the Powerball jackpot reaches an estimated $1.4 billion for tonight’s drawing. The jackpot has been climbing since a California player won $204.5 million on May 31. Players can tune in to watch the live drawing at 9:59 p.m. on various partner stations across Mississippi.
As a reminder for players, if they have gambling problems, they can call 1-800-GAMBLER (1-800-426-2537). Participation in the lottery is restricted to individuals 21 years and older.
