Ivan Fedotov Philadelphia Flyers Goalie Trade

PHILADELPHIA, Pennsylvania — The Philadelphia Flyers have traded goaltender Ivan Fedotov to the Columbus Blue Jackets, according to NHL insider Elliotte Friedman. The move comes just days before the start of training camp for the 2025 NHL season.

Fedotov, who backed up Samuel Ersson last season, struggled with the Flyers, finishing with a 6-13-4 record, a 3.15 goals-against average (GAA), and an .880 save percentage over 26 games. The Flyers recently signed Dan Vladar to serve as their new backup, making Fedotov expendable.

In exchange for Fedotov, the Flyers will receive a sixth-round pick in the 2026 NHL Draft but are not retaining any portion of his contract. With a cap hit of $3.275 million, Fedotov is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

At 28 years old, Fedotov will now compete with rookie Jet Greaves for the backup goalie position in Columbus. The Blue Jackets hope this trade will provide them with additional depth, as they previously traded Daniil Tarasov to the Florida Panthers.

Fedotov’s transition to Columbus comes after a tumultuous path to the NHL, which included a year-long detainment in Russia. Once a highly regarded prospect, his performance in the NHL has not met expectations, leading to this change of scenery.

While the Flyers will rely on Vladar as their backup, they will also need to solidify their goaltending lineup in anticipation of the upcoming season. The trade signifies that both teams are adjusting their rosters to meet their needs moving forward.

As Columbus gears up for the season, the coaching staff will evaluate Fedotov’s potential during the preseason, an opportunity for him to demonstrate his skills in this new environment.
