The series, known for its rich characters, has been praised for its exploration of mental health amid the backdrop of organized crime. James Gandolfini, who played Tony Soprano, is often remembered as a groundbreaking figure in television history. Gandolfini won several awards for his portrayal and was lauded for capturing the complexities of his character. He passed away from a heart attack in 2013 at age 51.

Another standout performance came from Tony Sirico, who portrayed Paulie Gualtieri, one of Tony’s most reliable henchmen. Known for his brash humor and fierce loyalty, Sirico was a fan favorite until he died at 79 in July 2022.

Lorraine Bracco, who played Dr. Jennifer Melfi, Tony’s psychiatrist, had a significant role in reflecting the themes of mental health throughout the series. Her complex character often found herself in peril due to her association with Tony.

Michael Imperioli, who portrayed Christopher Moltisanti, was noted for his dynamic performance as Tony’s impulsive protégé. Imperioli continues to work in the industry, recently appearing in the acclaimed HBO series The White Lotus.

Robert Iler, who played A.J. Soprano, faced distinct struggles as Tony’s son. He has continued acting and was involved in the dark comedy series Bad Thoughts in 2025.

Dominic Chianese, who played Corrado “Junior” Soprano, added depth with his insecurities and struggles for power. Chianese, with a career dating back to 1952, continues to act.

Jamie-Lynn Sigler, cast as Meadow Soprano, showcased a character grappling with the weight of her family’s criminal legacy. Sigler has appeared in various shows, including Big Sky.
