PHOENIX, ArizonaAlec Bohm had three RBIs in his return from the injured list as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks 8-2 on Friday night at Chase Field. The victory is notable as it pushes the Phillies closer to securing a wild card spot in the playoffs.

The Diamondbacks now find themselves three games behind the Phillies for the final National League wild card, with only eight games left in the regular season.

Bohm, who missed nearly two weeks due to left shoulder inflammation, contributed significantly after being activated just before the game. His first run came in the second inning with an RBI double that cut Arizona’s early 2-0 lead to 2-1.

In the sixth inning, Bohm added another run through an RBI single, putting the Phillies ahead 3-2. He capped his performance with a two-run single in the eighth that extended Philadelphia’s lead to 5-2.

The Phillies’ starting pitcher, Walker Buehler, returned from a brief spell on the injured list and pitched 3 2/3 scoreless innings in relief, allowing just one hit. Buehler, a two-time All-Star, had a challenging stint with the Red Sox earlier this season but has excelled since joining Philadelphia.

Philadelphia’s offense surged after initially trailing, with Ketel Marte hitting a solo homer for Arizona in the first. However, the Diamondbacks couldn’t maintain their lead as the Phillies rallied with timely hits.

Diamondbacks starter J. Beeks allowed two runs over four innings before handing the game to the bullpen. Arizona’s pitching faced challenges as the game progressed, particularly in the eighth when Buehler faced trouble by loading the bases before being saved by a popup.

The next game between these teams is scheduled for Saturday, where the Diamondbacks will send RHP Drey Jameson (12-14, 4.73 ERA) to the mound against Phillies RHP Aaron Nola (4-9, 6.44).
