MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Vikings will see the return of key players Christian Darrisaw and Harrison Smith for their Sunday game against the Cincinnati Bengals. Both players are expected to make their season debuts after recovering from injuries and illnesses.

Sources told ESPN’s Adam Schefter that Darrisaw, an All-Pro left tackle, and Smith, a veteran safety, will be active for the game. Darrisaw missed the start of the season due to a knee injury he sustained last October, while Smith has been sidelined since early August due to a personal health issue.

Vikings head coach Kevin O'Connell commented on Darrisaw’s recovery, saying, “He’s doing a great job and he’s in a great place with where we set out upon this journey many days and months ago.” Darrisaw was previously ranked as one of the top left tackles in the league before his injury.

Additionally, outside linebacker Andrew Van Ginkel and cornerback Jeff Okudah will make their returns after suffering concussions. This influx of talent comes as the Vikings prepare for their game without starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy and starting center Ryan Kelly, both ruled out due to injuries.

Smith, who is entering his 14th season in the NFL, brings a wealth of experience to the Vikings’ secondary. He last played in 2023, maintaining a durable presence on the field, missing only a few games since 2015. The Vikings hope his return will bolster a revamped defensive lineup.

As the Vikings look to improve their performance, the team struggles with pressure on their offensive line. They allowed 16 pressures and six sacks in their previous game against Atlanta. Darrisaw’s contribution will be crucial, especially when facing strong pass rusher Trey Hendrickson from Cincinnati.

Fans eagerly anticipate the season debut of Smith and Darrisaw against the Bengals, marking the team’s first noon kickoff of the season. The Vikings will need every advantage as they aim for a victory on Sunday.
