Amd Athlon 3000g Processor Launch

Tokyo, JapanAMD has relaunched its entry-level dual-core Athlon 3000G processor with new packaging and an upgraded cooler. According to reports from a Japanese news outlet, the new part number YD3000C6FHSBX is now available for ¥5,790, approximately $40.

The Athlon 3000G, initially released as AMD’s budget processor, is recognized as one of the slowest CPUs that can be paired with an AM4 motherboard. The chip features two unlocked Zen CPU cores and four threads, along with a modest 4MB of L3 cache. It operates at a thermal design power (TDP) of 35W and has a clock speed of 3.5 GHz. For graphics performance, the 3000G includes a Vega 3-based integrated GPU with three compute units and 192 cores, also clocked at 1.1 GHz.

A new version of the 3000G includes a beefier Wraith cooler, presenting new packaging while utilizing a die based on the Dali architecture. This Dali architecture is a less expensive production version of the older Raven Ridge design. Both versions deliver comparable performance, although the Dali version contains only two physical cores, while the original had a quad-core die with two cores disabled.

The re-release indicates AMD’s awareness of market demand for affordable options, even for a six-year-old processor. Other models, such as the Ryzen CPUs based on the Zen 3 architecture, underscore AMD’s strategy, with specific versions region-locked to places like Latin America and Asia.

Intel has similarly adopted this approach by reintroducing processors from older architectures, such as its recently launched chips based on the Comet Lake design from five years ago.

Potential buyers must keep in mind that the 3000G is not compatible with AMD’s latest 500-series AM5 motherboards. Although there may be some room for backward compatibility, the firmware limitations on newer boards may prevent support for such an old chip.
