Buffalo Sabres Vs Detroit Red Wings Preseason

DETROIT, Michigan — The Buffalo Sabres are gearing up for their preseason matchup against the Detroit Red Wings on Thursday, September 25, 2025. After two early-season victories against Columbus, the Sabres look to maintain their winning momentum at Little Caesars Arena.

The Sabres’ strong defensive strategy has been a key factor in their success, allowing only one goal in their first two games. Goaltenders Alexandar Georgiev, Alex Lyon, and Devon Levi combined for a remarkable 40 saves on 41 shots during this stretch. Forward Zach Benson noted the team’s defensive prowess, saying, “I thought, defensively, we were menaces” after their 2-1 win on Tuesday.

The puck is set to drop at 7 PM. The Sabres made some roster changes ahead of the game; forward Jiri Kulich will be sidelined due to a minor muscle tweak, as stated by head coach Lindy Ruff. Georgiev, who impressed with a shutout performance through two periods on Monday, is expected to play the entire game against the Red Wings.

In anticipation of the game, several players are making notable contributions. Among them, Konsta Helenius will become the only Sabres player to participate in all three preseason games, showcasing his skills after scoring a highlight-reel goal against Columbus. “I thought his game was probably one of the best I’ve seen,” Ruff said about Helenius, praising his stick work and overall performance.

Following this matchup, the Sabres will return to KeyBank Center on Saturday for a rematch with Detroit. Notably, Alex Tuch is set to make his preseason debut after recovering from an injury. Tuch has been practicing with Ryan McLeod and Jason Zucker, both of whom are also expected to play on Saturday. The Sabres currently hold a 2-1 record in the preseason, looking to improve their standing with another win.
