LOS ANGELES, CA – The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed left-handed pitcher Andrew Heaney ahead of their postseason run. The announcement came after the team optioned right-hander Will Klein and transferred Nick Frasso to the 60-day injured list.

Heaney, 34, was released by the Pittsburgh Pirates in August after struggling with a 5.39 ERA over 120.1 innings. Speculation arose when the Dodgers offered him a minor league deal earlier this month, aiming to bolster their struggling bullpen. Since joining Triple-A Oklahoma City, Heaney has excelled, posting a 0.90 ERA in 10 innings and striking out 13 while walking only two.

Despite the limited innings at the Triple-A level, Heaney’s recent performance has provided hope for a Dodgers pitching staff that has been challenged this season. “He looks to have a lot left in the tank,” a team official commented about his potential impact in the postseason.

In addition to his recent success, Heaney brings postseason experience, having contributed to the Texas Rangers‘ championship win in 2023. In that series, he started Game 4, allowing only one run in five innings. “This is an opportunity for him to prove he can still contribute at a high level,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said.

As the Dodgers prepare for the playoffs, the addition of Heaney may prove crucial. The team’s bullpen has faced challenges, and they’re hoping to find stability as they potentially pursue another championship. “We’ve never needed more relief help than right now,” Roberts stated.
