Southern Maine Community College Lifts Lockdown After Law Enforcement Incident

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) was placed on lockdown Tuesday morning due to a law enforcement situation on campus, officials confirmed.
The college issued an alert at 9:28 AM urging students, staff, and visitors to shelter in place and lock doors until further notice. Police were present on-site as part of the response.
Shortly after 9:39 AM, the lockdown was lifted, and students were informed it was safe to move around campus. However, details regarding the nature of the incident remain unclear.
Authorities have not released specifics about what prompted the law enforcement response. For safety reasons, people were advised to avoid the area during the lockdown.
