Final Four Compete in 2025 Fat Bear Week Semifinals
JUNEAU, Alaska — Fat Bear Week has reached the semifinals, igniting excitement among fans and voters. The competition highlights the largest bears of Katmai National Park as they vie for the coveted title.
Last week’s match saw the Beady sisters, bears 909 and 910, fall short against their competitors, 128 Grazer and 856. Despite their impressive girth, both sisters were eliminated, disappointing some of their 23,000 supporters. “910 might not have a large following, but she is a generous bear and shaped like a post office. I thought she had a chance!” said one fan.
Now, with four bears left in the running, voters are captivated by the remaining contestants, each with their own backstories at Brooks River. The bears are not just competitors; they resemble cast members in a reality show, showcasing the dynamics of life in the wild.
Despite starting the contest with a female advantage, only 128 Grazer remains. Known for her fierce protective nature and history of victories, she has won two consecutive titles. However, past trends suggest that voters often favor variety, raising questions about whether she will secure a third win.
On the other hand, 32 Chunk, known for having a broken jaw, has adjusted to challenges and put on weight this summer. Voters are curious if they can overlook his contentious past as he attempts to grab the title.
Bear 856, once the dominant “boss bear,” has taken a quieter approach this season, resulting in a more favorable public perception. As he gains recognition, many are optimistic about his potential win.
But the standout newcomer is 602 Flotato. This bear delighted fans with joyous antics this summer while thriving amid abundant salmon populations. He claims his spot as a social media influencer among bears, known for his unique personality marked by playful behaviors.
The voting for this round is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. AKST. Whether voters prioritize past performance or summer charm remains to be seen, but the anticipation is palpable. May the fattest bear win!
