Twin Cities Face Unseasonably Warm Weekend with Marathon Ahead

St. Paul, Minnesota – The Twin Cities are bracing for an unusually warm weekend as temperatures are expected to soar into the 90s on Saturday, possibly breaking a record from 1922.
Meteorologist Chris Reece reported that Saturday’s high could reach 90°F, matching or exceeding the record of 89°F set more than a century ago. With wind gusts expected between 30 to 40 mph, the warmth will be accompanied by breezy conditions.
On Sunday, the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon will take place under similarly warm conditions for early October. Morning lows are predicted to be around 70°F, with afternoon highs creeping into the low 80s. Reece advises runners and spectators to pace themselves, stay hydrated, and be prepared for heat stress along the course.
While a stray shower cannot be entirely ruled out, warmth will dominate the marathon forecast. This may create challenges for participants and onlookers as humidity lingers in the air, leading to sweltering conditions.
By Monday, however, a cooling trend is set to arrive. Temperatures are expected to dive back into the 60s, creating more typical fall weather. The cooldown is predicted to last into the following week, with highs stabilizing in the low to mid-60s.
Enjoy the current heat and sunshine while it lasts, but remember to prepare adequately for the marathon this Sunday.
