Grizzlies Seek First Preseason Win Against Hornets Amid Injuries

GREENSBORO, North Carolina — The Memphis Grizzlies are set to face off against the Charlotte Hornets on Wednesday night, aiming to secure their first win of the preseason after starting with an 0-3 record.
Despite the lack of victories, the Grizzlies are focusing on player development and team chemistry during these exhibition games. Due to a series of injuries, several young players have stepped up, gaining valuable experience. Coach Tuomas Iisalo said the exhibition games are significant for building depth and readiness for the regular season.
Currently, the Grizzlies will be missing key players, including Ja Morant, Jaren Jackson Jr., Zach Edey, and Brandon Clarke, all of whom are expected to sit out their fourth consecutive game. Morant is working through an ankle injury, while Jackson is recovering from a toe issue.
“Ja and Jaren are progressing well, but we want to be cautious,” Iisalo stated, though he did not confirm whether they’d return for the final preseason games. Players like Jaylen Wells and rookie Cedric Coward are taking advantage of their increased minutes.
Meanwhile, the Hornets are dealing with injuries but have most of their main roster available. They will be without Grant Williams and Josh Green, who are recovering from surgeries but look to build on their recent win against the Dallas Mavericks.
The matchup marks an important moment for both teams as they finalize their rosters ahead of the regular season, which begins next week. The game will tip off at 7:00 p.m. ET at First Horizon Coliseum.
As the Grizzlies aim to find their rhythm amid injury struggles, this game offers a chance to build momentum for the upcoming season against a more stable Hornets squad.
