Chris Hemsworth Documentary Alzheimer's

SYDNEY, Australia — Chris Hemsworth is sharing his family’s experience with dementia in an upcoming documentary, “Chris Hemsworth: A Road Trip to Remember.” The film follows Hemsworth and his father, Craig, as they travel across Australia on motorcycles following Craig’s early-stage Alzheimer’s diagnosis.

In a trailer released Thursday, Hemsworth expresses the personal significance of the journey. “My dad and I are going on a road trip, back into our past. He has early-stage Alzheimer’s. I wanna do everything I can to help him. Turns out, this experience could help fight the disease,” he says.

The documentary, set to premiere on National Geographic on November 23 and available for streaming on Disney+ and Hulu starting November 24, features various locations significant to the Hemsworth family. Chris explains how “different places instantly bring those memories to life” for his father.

Alongside their journey, the film explores how social connections can impact cognitive health. Dr. Suraj Samtani, a dementia specialist and clinical psychologist from the University of New South Wales Centre for Healthy Brain Aging, guided the Hemsworth family throughout the documentary filming process.

Reflecting on their trip, Chris shared, “My Dad and I had always spoken about taking a trip back to the Northern Territory, where our family had lived years ago, but we had never been able to set aside the time to actually do it. More recently, the idea of taking that road trip reemerged with more pressing importance. The result was a more profound, more moving, and more surprising journey than I ever anticipated.”
