Houston Faces Stormy Weekend Ahead of Fall Day Celebration
HOUSTON, Texas — Residents of Houston are preparing for a weekend of turbulent weather, with two rounds of storms expected to hit the area. The first round is anticipated early Saturday morning, while a second wave could arrive later Saturday evening. Despite the forecast, locals are hopeful for favorable weather during the annual Fall Day celebration at Midtown Park, scheduled from 10 a.m. to noon CT.
“The main line of storms should have passed by the time our event starts, so we expect mostly fair conditions for Fall Day,” said a local meteorologist. Temperatures are predicted to remain in the low 70s, offering a pleasant environment for attendees. However, organizers are ready to make adjustments if conditions become unsafe.
Today’s forecast predicts mostly clear skies turning cloudy as humidity levels rise. Scattered showers are expected this afternoon and evening in parts of Houston. Winds from the southeast will be breezy, gusting up to 25 mph, with temperatures reaching the mid-80s.
A line of thunderstorms is developing in Central Texas and could reach College Station between 1 and 3 a.m., then Houston from 3 to 6 a.m. The coastal area may experience storm activity from 6 to 8 a.m. This storm system is likely to bring between 1 to 2 inches of rain and could generate damaging winds or isolated tornadoes.
Following the morning storms, conditions may improve temporarily, but residents should brace for a second set of storms expected to form later in the afternoon or evening due to a weak front advancing through the area. This later system could be severe, possibly bringing hail and additional rainfall.
Forecasters estimate that the total rainfall from both storm events could reach between 2 to 4 inches in the Houston area. While the drought has left soils relatively dry, caution is advised as the heavier rains are expected to fall during nighttime hours.
As residents look ahead to Halloween, forecasts show clear and cool weather, ideal for trick-or-treating.
