Lionel Messi Inter Miami Playoff Game

FORT LAUDERDALE, Florida — Lionel Messi propelled Inter Miami to a 3-1 victory over Nashville SC in the opening match of the MLS playoffs Friday night, scoring two goals and providing crucial support to his teammates.

The match kicked off at Chase Stadium, where Messi was honored in a pre-game ceremony after receiving the Golden Boot award from MLS Commissioner Don Garber. Messi led the league with 29 goals and 19 assists during the regular season.

Messi opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a diving header, connecting beautifully with a cross from fellow Uruguayan striker Luis Suárez. Thirteen minutes later, a free-kick from Messi came close to doubling the lead as teammate Ian Fray’s shot went just wide.

As the first half concluded, Nashville attempted to equalize, with Bryan Acosta missing a long-range shot just before halftime. Despite their efforts, the first half ended with Inter Miami leading 1-0.

In the second half, Inter Miami continued to press, and in the 61st minute, Teo Allende headed in a cross from Ian Fray, extending the lead to 2-0. Messi sealed the game late, scoring again in stoppage time before Nashville’s Hany Mukhtar converted a free kick.

Inter Miami coach Javier Mascherano praised the team effort, saying, “To reach the highest point, we need everyone.” The victory puts Miami ahead in the best-of-three playoff series, with hopes high for their upcoming match in Nashville on November 1.
