Cold Weather Shelters Open in Tampa Bay Amid Freeze Warning
TAMPA, Fla. – A Freeze Warning is in effect for Citrus County and inland Hernando County as cold temperatures move into the Bay area on Monday night. Temperatures are expected to drop to the upper 20s to low 30s overnight, with wind chills making it feel even colder.
A cold-weather shelter will open on Monday night in Citrus County, running from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. on both November 10 and 11. The city of Brooksville will also open a warming center from 8 p.m. Monday to 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Various cold-weather shelters across the region will provide shelter on Monday and Tuesday nights, opening at 6 p.m. and closing at 10 a.m. the following day. Some notable locations include Shady Hills Mission Chapel and First Nazarene Church of Zephyrhills.
In addition, Talbot House is stepping up efforts to help during this cold snap, keeping individuals in-house 24/7 to ensure safety and warmth. They are asking for donations of food, clothing, and financial support.
Transportation options will also be available through Manatee County Area Transit (MCAT), which will start service at 5 p.m. from designated pickup locations.
As the temperature continues to drop, more locations for shelter and support will be announced as information becomes available.
