Raven Symoné Bill Cosby Podcast Comments

LOS ANGELES, California — Raven-Symoné, the former star of The Cosby Show, shared her thoughts about her co-star Bill Cosby during a recent podcast episode.

On the November 3 episode of the podcast Hate to Break It to Ya, the 39-year-old actress addressed Cosby’s legal troubles, stating, “He has been accused of some horrific things. That does not excuse, but that’s his personal [life].” She emphasized the need to separate his personal issues from his professional achievements.

Raven-Symoné pointed out Cosby’s contributions to the entertainment industry, specifically highlighting his role in hiring Black crew members. “Now it’s mandated,” she mentioned, “but back then—especially on a Black show—it was very important to see yourself not just in front, but behind the camera as well, and Mr. Cosby instilled that in all of us.”

She continued explaining that she advocates for diversity in her own projects. “I took it to Disney and I took it to anywhere I went afterwards, even when it wasn’t the norm. I was like, ‘No, I have to be able to see myself.’ Because if I don’t ask for it, who will?”

Earlier, Cosby was found guilty of sexual assault in 2018, but his conviction was overturned in June 2021 due to a previous agreement with prosecutors. Cosby, now 88, has maintained his innocence since the start of the allegations, thanking supporters for standing by him.

Raven-Symoné’s comments reflect a nuanced perspective on Cosby’s legacy, where she recognizes both his influence and the seriousness of his allegations. “Separate the creator from the creation. And that’s just where I live. The creation changed America. Changed television,” she noted.
