SAN ANTONIO – Mayor Gina Ortiz Jones is seeking clarity regarding a recent raid at an unauthorized nightclub on the North Side that took place last weekend.

According to a statement released on Friday, Mayor Jones expressed concern about the status of individuals detained during the incident. “We are continuing to seek answers regarding the raid conducted on Sunday,” Jones stated.

More than 150 arrests were made by federal authorities from the Department of Homeland Security, many of whom are believed to have connections to a gang based in Venezuela. The raid also resulted in the arrest of over 140 immigrants lacking permanent legal status from various countries including Venezuela, Honduras, and Mexico.

Mayor Jones mentioned in her statement that she has reached out to the head of the regional Homeland Security Task Force in response to the incident. “In addition, our office sent a letter requesting an update on activities to ensure we are meeting our mutual goals of maintaining both public safety and public trust,” she added.

Jones emphasized the importance of transparency in ensuring community safety, stating, “I look forward to receiving the answers our community rightly deserves. Transparency is the foundation of a safe community, and we must ensure that everyone receives due process.”

The mayor’s proactive approach reflects her commitment to accountability and communication with the public amidst ongoing concerns about immigration enforcement activities in the region.
