Actor Jamie Dornan and Good Morning Britain Presenter Receive Emergency Treatment in Portugal
Good Morning Britain's Gordon Smart recently revealed a harrowing experience during a holiday in Portugal with actor Jamie Dornan and friends. The group, enjoying a golfing trip, suddenly fell ill with symptoms that initially resembled a heart attack. Gordon recounts the scary ordeal, being the first to experience a tingling sensation in his left hand and arm, prompting concerns of a heart attack. Seeking medical attention at a local facility, he was diagnosed with a heart rate of 210 beats per minute and immediately sent to a hospital by Uber.
Gordon recalls regaining consciousness in a hospital bed, attached to a machine, with a doctor questioning his actions. Afterwards, he discovered a friend, Jamie Dornan, fellow actor and star of movies such as The Tourist and The Fall, had also experienced numbing sensations in his limbs, resulting in an ambulance ride after Gordon had left to seek treatment.
Fortunately, both Gordon and Jamie recovered, and a week later, a doctor called to reveal a surprising cause for their symptoms. It transpired that their encounter with caterpillars on the golf course, specifically hairy processionary caterpillars found in the south of Portugal, was likely responsible. These toxic caterpillars have been known to cause allergic reactions and even heart attacks in men in their 40s. The duo considers themselves lucky to have survived the encounter.
