Adam Kinzinger Speaks at Democratic National Convention in Support of Kamala Harris

CHICAGO (CBS) – In a significant appearance at the Democratic National Convention, Adam Kinzinger, a former Republican congressman from Illinois, emphasized his coalition with Democrats to oppose former President Donald Trump.

As a member of the January 6 select committee, Kinzinger pursued investigations against efforts to overturn the 2020 election results. He opted against seeking reelection in 2022 and has since relocated to Texas, utilizing a political action committee to challenge Trump-aligned candidates.

Kinzinger characterized Trump as having “suffocated the soul of the Republican Party,” asserting that his fundamental weaknesses have fostered disconnects from core values within the party. He remarked on his shared commitment to the rule of law and democracy with Democrats, advocating for support of Kamala Harris as a choice to uphold these principles.

Despite potential backlash from fellow Republicans, Kinzinger underscored the importance of unity among those dedicated to defending democracy against tyranny. He called upon like-minded conservatives to join him in supporting Harris during the upcoming election.
