Eric Adams New York City Mayor Election

New York City, NY – Eric Adams announced his re-election campaign in September, but recent polling suggests this may not significantly impact the race. According to polling researcher Caroline Soler, no new polls have emerged since the announcement.

In a Times/Siena poll conducted earlier in September, Adams’ supporters showed a preference for Andrew Cuomo over Zohran Mamdani when given the choice. Despite this, Adams struggled in the polls, consistently receiving less than 10 percent support before he concluded his campaign.

Soler noted that even if all of Adams’ backers were to switch their support to Cuomo, it likely wouldn’t be enough to close the gap with Mamdani, who has maintained a considerable lead throughout the election cycle.

Ruth Igielnik, a staff editor focused on polling, mentioned the challenges of accurately gauging public support in primary elections. Polls indicated that, while Mamdani did not initially lead in the first round, he gained traction as the campaign progressed. Ultimately, he secured victory following ranked-choice voting.

The dynamics of the race may continue to shift as the primary approaches, but Mamdani appears to have a strong position heading into the final weeks of the election.
