Harry Sharp, a young winger for the Brisbane Lions, has reportedly requested a trade to the Melbourne Demons as the 2024 AFL Trade Period enters a critical phase. At 21 years old, Sharp has participated in 16 games over four years, having been selected in the 2020 AFL Draft with the 43rd pick. His potential move comes following Brisbane’s significant victory over Sydney by 60 points in the Grand Final, as reported by AFL.com.

Renowned for his exceptional endurance and running skills, Sharp’s abilities are seen as ideal replacements for Alex Neal-Bullen and Lachie Hunter. Both players, known for their roles across wing and half-forward, have departed Melbourne, leaving a gap that Sharp could potentially fill.

Mitch Cleary from 7News noted that Sharp is “open to exploring his options elsewhere,” indicating a willingness from the Lions to facilitate a trade should a suitable opportunity arise. Although an official agreement has yet to be finalized, it is believed that Melbourne will not need to offer high-value assets to acquire Sharp.

Brisbane aims to enhance its draft capital, an ambition that trading Sharp could support, particularly as the team looks to secure points for promising young talents. Sharp’s history as a competitive steeplechase runner has endowed him with an outstanding endurance capacity, which could significantly bolster Melbourne’s midfield.

According to Riley Beveridge of AFL.com, Sharp has formalized his trade request to the Demons. Melbourne holds several draft picks, including numbers 5, 28, 40, 49, 54, and 65, which could be pivotal in negotiations.
