On October 8, 2024, a significant development in the urban transportation sector was observed in Agadir with the introduction of the Wink Taxi application. Designed to modernize taxi services, the app has successfully caught the attention of both drivers and passengers, according to local reports.

Ibrahim Lamssalek, a taxi driver in Agadir, remarked on the app’s popularity, stating, “The application has met with great success, particularly among married women who utilize it to avoid misunderstandings with their spouses. Others adopt it for trust, safety, and service quality.” This sentiment is echoed by numerous passengers who appreciate the initiative spearheaded by young local entrepreneurs.

The start-up behind Wink Taxi has created a platform that caters to the needs of taxi drivers and their clients. “This application is seen as a reliable alternative to other sometimes questionable solutions,” mentioned one of the satisfied users. With over 120 taxis currently registered, the Professional Association of Small Taxi Owners and Drivers of Agadir aims to reach 300 vehicles in the coming weeks.

Jamal Sahal, the president of the association, highlighted the app’s acceptance, particularly by younger drivers who are more comfortable with digital tools. “The enthusiasm is notable among the youth, who are adept at using this tool. It’s a crucial step towards modernizing the sector,” he stated. The main challenge, however, remains managing peak activity periods, especially during the summer tourist influx.

As Wink Taxi gradually establishes itself as a modern and secure alternative in Agadir, its expansion to other major cities in Morocco appears promising, according to industry observers.
