Aldi Brie Cheese Recall Listeria

A recent recall alert has been issued by Savencia Cheese USA for several soft-ripened cheeses sold at various retailers, including Aldi and Market Basket, due to potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. This bacterium can cause serious and potentially fatal infections, particularly in pregnant people, older adults, and individuals with compromised immune systems.

The recall includes several types of Brie and Camembert cheeses. Specifically, the affected products are Aldi Emporium Selection Brie, La Bonne Vie Brie, La Bonne Vie Camembert, Industrial Brie, Market Basket Brie, and Supreme Oval cheeses. All of these cheeses have a best-buy date of 12/24/2024.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has emphasized the importance of this recall, given the severity of listeriosis, a condition caused by Listeria monocytogenes. Listeriosis can lead to stillbirth, miscarriage, premature delivery, or life-threatening infections in newborns, especially in pregnant individuals. For others, it may cause mild or flu-like symptoms, but it can be severe in vulnerable populations.

Consumers who have purchased the affected cheeses are advised to discard them immediately or return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Special caution is recommended for handling these products to avoid cross-contamination, which can also spread the bacteria.

This recall is part of a series of recent food safety alerts in the U.S. related to Listeria monocytogenes contamination, including recalls of frozen waffles and Boar’s Head deli meat earlier this year.
