Alejandro Sanz Launches New EP Featuring Collaborations and Personal Reflections

Los Angeles, CA — Alejandro Sanz, the celebrated Spanish singer-songwriter, has released a new EP titled “¿Y ahora qué?” after an illustrious career that includes four Grammy awards and 22 Latin Grammy accolades. The EP, featuring six tracks, marks a departure from traditional full-length albums as it embraces a more concise format.
Seven months ago, Sanz offered a preview of the EP with the single “Palmeras en el jardín,” reflecting on a recent love breakup. Now that the complete work is available, he took time to discuss the songs and their meanings.
Starting with the collaboration “Bésame,” featuring Shakira, Sanz expressed excitement about working with her again. “I met Shakira at a great moment. She is fully engaged in her work and brings something special to each collaboration,” he said.
“Bésame” celebrates love with joyful lyrical references to Colombia and its coffee, blending urban influences with elements of afrobeat and flamenco. The connection between Sanz and Shakira continues strong, especially after two decades since their iconic hit “La tortura.”
Another track, “El vino de tu boca,” reveals a more nuanced view of heartbreak, moving away from overly dramatic displays of love. “It’s a reflection of our times,” Sanz said. “Lyrically, the world has improved in its expression, acknowledging the varied problems we face emotionally.”
Navigating themes of mental health, Sanz openly discusses his past struggles with depression in the song “Hoy no me siento bien.” The lyrics resonate deeply with many, as fans have shared personal experiences in response to his candidness.
“Feeling down is okay, and it’s important to talk about it,” he stated. “You can still enjoy life and dance while facing difficult emotions.”
Sanz also mentioned upcoming shows as part of his tour in Mexico this September and October, where he aims to showcase his new material along with fresh stage designs. He remains hopeful for plans to perform in the United States next year, though nothing is confirmed as of now.
His willingness to experiment and blend different musical styles has positioned him as a forward-thinking artist. With the release of “¿Y ahora qué?”, Sanz continues to push boundaries and redefine his musical legacy.
