Alien Earth Episode 5 Review

LOS ANGELES, CA – Alien: Earth surprised fans with its fifth episode, titled “In Space, No One…” This episode acts as a flashback mini-movie, capturing the essence of the 1979 original film while bringing a fresh twist to the narrative.

The episode gives viewers a look into the ill-fated USCSS Maginot, depicting the events that led to the dangerous creatures escaping and the ship crashing on Earth. The ship’s design mirrors that of the original Nostromo, creating an alternate universe experience for long-time fans.

Creator Noah Hawley emphasized the need for this twist, saying it was crucial to innovate while staying true to the franchise. “This allowed me… to also pick up the gauntlet for classic Alien to say, ‘We could do classic Alien and do it as well as anyone,’” Hawley said. “When the xenomorph enters the story, you’re six tragedies deep, and then it just escalates.”

The episode also contained a shocking twist regarding Boy Kavalier, played by Samuel Blenkin, who reveals he sabotaged the Maginot in hopes of stealing the creatures. Hawley noted that the reckless nature of Kavalier’s plan reflects the impulsiveness often associated with tech billionaires.

Hawley stated, “I think you have a lot of ADHD billionaires with impulse control issues… He has never failed, so he thinks failure is impossible.” This characterization subtly critiques the hubris of real-world figures who overreach in various fields.

Fans are left to wonder about the motivations of other characters, such as Andy Yu’s Teng, who displayed disturbing behavior before meeting a grim fate at the hands of the xenomorph. Hawley commented on the ambiguity of characters in the series, stating, “It’s always open to interpretation… But yeah, for me, he’s a creepy dude.”

New episodes of Alien: Earth air every Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET on FX and Hulu, promising more surprises and intense moments for viewers.
